The Chingford Historical Society is holding its first ever North Chingford Heritage Festival this summer, with 16 days of events between 21st June and 6th July 2025 celebrating the history and culture of the area.

Organised in collaboration with Waltham Forest Council, the festival aims to celebrate how Chingford’s past and present shape the area.

Events include a walking tour in the ancient Epping Forest, as well as open days for historical buildings, children’s arts and crafts activities, gallery and museum exhibitions, talks, author events, Windrush Day celebrations and heritage walks, which are all available to attend for free.

The Friends of Pimp Hall Nature Reserve are offering a history afternoon with activities and a heritage trail, while the Chingford Amateur Dramatics and Operatic Society is offering music and film events.

Meanwhile, local photographer Nicky Bamber will be taking portrait photos of people from 1st to 15th June at her studio on Station Road, to be displayed as an exhibition from 1st to 5th July.

Festival visitors will also have the chance to see art and photography exhibitions in the Epping Forest visitor centre, while there will be free access to the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge for the festival’s duration.

Describing the festival as “all about connection, pride and unity”, Rosalind Doré, the council’s cabinet member for libraries, culture, sports and leisure said: “I’m truly excited for the first ever North Chingford Heritage Festival happening this summer, it’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together, celebrate our rich local history, and learn some interesting facts about North Chingford.”
