The roof of a Walthamstow home partially collapsed yesterday evening (10th August), causing twelve people to be evacuated from surrounding properties.
Firefighters were called to the incident in Church Hill at around 9pm yesterday, with one fire engine from Walthamstow Fire Station attending the scene.
They evacuated residents from surrounding homes, before the Metropolitan Police arrived and helped to cordon off Church Hill to traffic.
No injuries have been reported, the Met said, with the incident understood to be a structural issue with the building.
A cordon remained in place this morning (11th August), with the W12 and 212 buses currently being diverted.
A Met spokesperson said: “On Monday, 10th August at 9.43pm police were called to reports that the roof of a residential building had collapsed at Church Hill, Walthamstow.
“Officers attended alongside the London Fire Brigade to assist with closing the road and traffic management.
“No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made. A cordon remains in place.
Waltham Forest Council stated yesterday: “There is currently a road closure in place on Church Hill, E17 whilst the fire service deal with a damaged roof to a property in the vicinity. This is likely to be in place until tomorrow morning (Tuesday, 11th August). Drivers are advised to use alternative routes at this time.”
