The developer behind the borough’s biggest housing scheme is looking for an artist or art collective to decorate its site in Leyton.

Developer Taylor Wimpey is building 750 new homes in “Coronation Square”, otherwise known as the Score Centre site, after cutting a deal to purchase the land from Waltham Forest Council at a £6.9million discount.

The company is looking to create a “vibrant market square” surrounded by the new homes and is willing to spend £145,000 on a series of 18 permanent artworks to decorate the flat blocks.

According to Taylor Wimpey, the artworks should “reflect the vision for Coronation Square as a vibrant and mixed new neighbourhood in Waltham Forest, for both residents and visitors”.

The successful artist or collective must be from either Waltham Forest itself or a neighbouring borough.

David Pelle, from Taylor Wimpey, said: “Public art is a key part of what makes Leyton such a special place to live and work and we are determined that Coronation Square will be a continuation of that.

“These artworks will define each of the residential blocks, linking them together with a bold theme that also reflects the wider area.

“We know that there are some incredibly creative people across the area and we are looking forward to seeing the ideas that people come up with for this commission.”
