A new women-only gym has opened at Leyton Leisure Centre giving women a dedicated area where they can exercise in Leyton.

The new gym – which opened today (1st September) – is designed to offer women “more choice, privacy and the confidence to get active”, operators GLL said.

They added: “The new facility – which has been created within the main leisure centre – provides a welcoming, comfortable and private environment where women can work out in a setting designed specifically with them in mind.”

A range of cardio and strength equipment, including treadmills, bikes, cross trainers, spin bikes, free weights, leg press, leg extension, leg curl, shoulder press and chest press are available on top of personal training sessions.

The gym will develop in response to customer feedback, with further developments planned for November and December.

Daniel O’Connor, partnership manager for Waltham Forest, said: “We want women to feel comfortable and confident using Better’s leisure facilities, so we’re really excited to open our first women-only gym.

“We already offer a range of activities for women at Leyton Leisure Centre, including fitness classes and women-only swimming sessions, and this new gym gives women another option to get active.

“We’re deliberately starting with a focused offering so we can listen to the women using the space, understand what they want and make sure we invest in the right equipment and facilities. We want the women using the space to help shape its future, so their feedback will be vital as we look at the next stage of the development.”
