Around 20 tonnes of scrap metal was alight at a metal recycling centre in the Argall Avenue Industrial Estate this morning
Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are responding to a fire at a metal recycling centre in the Argall Avenue Industrial Estate in Leyton.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the fire at 6.44am, and crews from Leyton, Homerton, Walthamstow, and surrounding fire stations raced to the scene. The fire was declared under control by 9.57am.
The LFB has said around 20 tonnes of scrap metal was alight at the fire’s height earlier this morning, with one of the Brigade’s 32 metre ladders and a drone team deployed to help with putting it out.
Residents in the immediate surrounding area were advised to keep doors and windows closed due to the large amount of smoke that was being produced by the fire. The blaze’s cause is not yet known.
Waltham Forest Council issued a statement on social media saying that Argall Way and Staffa Road are shut while firefighters tackled the blaze, adding that the fire posed “no immediate risk to the wider public”.
