A hand painted mural of local football player Omar Beckles forms part of an artistic takeover of Leyton High Road that celebrates Leyton Orient FC.
The ‘Home Team’ art trail, which runs from today (1st March) until 5th April, includes international artist Woskerski’s mural of Omar Beckles and photography shot by local artist Jake Green of the club’s players, fans, and staff.
As part of the trail artist Tamasyn Gambell has also hand stitched a graphic type based wall hanging from recycled carpet off-cuts.

Having worked as a steward and turnstile operator at Leyton Orient as a teenager, Jake revisited old friends and recorded local legends to create a visual archive that celebrates the people and the places that make up one of the oldest football clubs in London and the world.

He says: “‘When I first went back to Orient after a 20-year exile I was overwhelmed by a sense of nostalgia and familiarity – I felt like I was returning home.”
You can see Jake’s photos at the following spots on Leyton High Road until 5th April: The Key Shop,
Palmeira, Gaska, Coronation Gardens, Maan Plumbing & DIY, Flying Carpets, The Coach & Horses,
and Deeney’s.

Councillor Rosalind Doré, the cabinet member for libraries, culture and sports and leisure said: “We are proud to be supporting our very own Jake Green with his art exhibition that celebrates Leyton’s rich football history, through powerful art and photography.

“This art trail not only honours our local heritage and brings the community together, it also encourages visitors from around the borough and further afield to come and explore all of the fantastic businesses that Leyton High Road has to offer, which boosts the local economy.”
