A Leyton textile designer has spoken of her excitement at collaborating with the American singer John Legend on a silk fashion collection.

Alice Acreman, who runs business Acreman Silks from her Leyton studio, has put together a six-piece collection modelled and inspired by the famous R&B singer.

The collaboration with John Legend came about after she was contacted by a team at Etsy in the US.

The collection, which features silk robes, bow ties, and a pocket square accessory, was influenced by the interior of Legend’s home. Acreman notes how his wife Chrissy Teigen was also a “muse” for the collection, and her style inspired the collection’s unisex appeal.

She said: “Etsy have been really supportive of my brand in the past, so I was very excited when they reached out to ask if I’d like to be involved in this collaboration project.”

The six-piece collection has been made available on Etsy from October, and through the end of December. Each one was designed in her Leyton studio.

The two printed silk robes are each called ‘Wild’ and ‘Embrace’, and are made from luxurious silk and feature digital prints of her illustrations which have the intention of invoking “warm and cosy winter vibes”.

Alice says: “I had been wanting to add a more masculine element to my brand and his timeless and classy style was the ideal muse to inform this collection.”

In the future Alice says she would like “to offer bigger, more daring pieces, like printed suits and long billowing dresses. But in the near future, I’m experimenting with accessories and products which really benefit from silk’s natural qualities like hair wraps and matching bedding.”
