The Leyton and Wanstead MP said he was ‘honoured’ by the appointment

Leyton and Wanstead MP Calvin Bailey has been appointed a trade envoy to Southern Africa.
The MP, who was born in Zambia, given an MBE in 2015 in recognition for his lengthy former career as a Royal Air Force pilot.
Trade envoys are parliamentarians who engage with countries where the UK government has identified trade and investment opportunities.
Bailey will be working on Angola, Botswana, DRC, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zambia, with other countries in the region covered by colleagues.
Reacting to the announcement, Bailey said: “I am honoured by this appointment, which will enable me to do more to serve our country, including the people of Leyton and Wanstead.
“This is a source of particular pride for me because of my family links to the region. The connections to other countries many of us have in Leyton and Wanstead are a foundation of strength for the UK and can help our country to thrive and achieve greater security in this volatile world.”
