Two Asian restaurants in Waltham Forest have been nominated for a restaurant and takeaway award.

Yaz Restaurant in Highams Park and Bollywoods in Chingford are among nine east London eateries which have been shortlisted for the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA).

The awards celebrate Pan Asian cuisine in the UK, with the final awards set to take place on Sunday 6th October at London’s Royal Lancaster hotel.

Journalist Samantha Simmonds and magician Paul Martin will host the awards which feature a series of regional and national categories. The categories include the National Champion of the Champions, Regional Restaurant of the Year, National and Regional Chefs of the Year National and Regional Takeaway of the Year and National Newcomer of The Year.

Restaurants and takeaways are nominated by over 900,000 customers, before a judging panel decides the winners.

Yaz Restaurant is a Turkish specialty eatery with a cocktail bar and a heated outdoor balcony. Yaz has a four star TripAdvisor rating, with customers complimenting its generous portion sizes, and drink selection. Yaz also state they welcome birthday bashes, as well as intimate dinner and cocktail parties.

Bollywoods describes itself as a “glam, dimly lit Indian restaurant with lavish designer booth seating and ornate chandeliers”. It also has a four star rating on TripAdvisor, with many of the 110 reviewers positively describing the restaurant’s service, atmosphere, and food quality. The Chingford restaurant also hosts weddings and private parties for up to 200 people.

ARTA’s chief executive Mohammed Munim said: “Asian restaurants and takeaways have made a significant contribution to the UK economy, both historically and in recent times. They deserve recognition and rewards for their efforts.”
