Weaver Line to close for two weekends in September

Network Rail will carry out essential works on the line between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt/Enfield Town on the weekends of 19th and 20th September, and 26th and 27th September

Network Rail will carry out essential overhead line and structure renewals between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt/Enfield Town for two consecutive weekends in September, causing disruption to passengers.

Services between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt/Enfield Town on the Weaver line, or on Greater Anglia services via Seven Sisters, will not run on the weekends of 19th and 20th September and 26th and 27th September.

A range of essential work will take place along the Weaver line while it is closed, including carrying out extensive overhead line renewals including replacing ageing wires, structures and concrete bases, reducing the risk of future faults and disruption.

Network Rail will also carry out essential maintenance along the route, including clearing vegetation and inspecting and repairing railway structures and equipment, and repair the Cadent gas pipe bridge at Stoke Newington, using the railway closure to complete the work and avoid further disruption.

London Overground services will not run between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt/Enfield Town on the affected weekends. All stations in between these locations will also be closed.

Rail replacement bus services will be in operation during these closures.

Passengers travelling between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt will be able to change at Hackney Downs and use a Greater Anglia service to/from Cheshunt via Tottenham Hale.

Passengers travelling to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa fixture on Saturday 19th September or the BIGBANG concert on Saturday 26 September are encouraged to plan ahead and check before travelling to allow extra time for their journeys.

Greater Anglia services that normally operate via Seven Sisters will be diverted via Tottenham Hale on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September and Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September.

Joe Kennedy, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia, said: “This work is part of our ongoing programme to renew and maintain the railway between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt/Enfield Town, helping to keep the route reliable and fit for the future.

“Bringing this work together over two weekends means our teams can carry out a significant amount of work safely and efficiently, while avoiding the need for further closures, and we’ll work with our partners to minimise disruption.

“I’d like to thank all our customers for their patience while we carry out this important work.”

We appreciate that the closures will cause some disruption and are working closely with our partners to minimise the impact on passengers.

“Customers travelling on the affected weekends should plan ahead, check their journey before setting off and allow extra time to travel.”
