A middle-aged man from Barnet appeared in court yesterday charged with the rape and sexual assault of two teenage girls in Chingford.

Earlier this week, forensics were seen investigating around Highams Park Lake after two teenage girls contacted police shortly before 9.30pm on Sunday, 7th August.

They reported that they had been attacked in the surrounding park at some point between 4.30pm and 8.45pm that day.

Nayden Nastov, a 38-year-old from Moss Hall Grove in Finchley, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with the crime, although he has yet to make his plea.

He was arrested on Tuesday, 9th August, two days after the attack.

Both girls are being supported by specialist officers.

Responding to reports of the incident in the Echo, local MP Sir Iain Duncan Smith wrote: “As a community, we must ensure we have an environment in which women and girls are safe and feel safe to pursue their lives, free from fear and harassment.”
