A Walthamstow law firm raised more than £3,000 for charity after taking part in a nationwide will-writing campaign for the first time.

Arona St James Solicitors raised £3,245 through the annual Will Aid scheme, which sees solicitors waive their usual fees for basic wills in return for charitable donations.

The campaign runs each November and supports a number of charities working in the UK and overseas, including Age UK, British Red Cross, Shelter and NSPCC.

The Walthamstow firm said it was “incredibly proud” of the amount raised during its first year taking part.

Arona Sarwar, from the firm, said: “We’re delighted to have helped so many people put their affairs in order while raising such a substantial amount for charity as part of Will Aid.

“It was a real team effort and we’re incredibly proud to have made such an impact in our first year taking part.”

Since launching in 1988, Will Aid says it has raised more than £26m in donations, alongside millions more pledged through charitable legacies.

Lauren Poole, chair of Will Aid, congratulated the firm on its contribution and said it was “fantastic to see firms embracing the campaign”.

Will Aid campaign director Peter de Vena Franks added that new firms taking part played “a vital role” in helping the scheme reach more people and raise money for partner charities.

The suggested donation through the scheme is £120 for a single basic Will and £200 for a pair of mirror Wills.
