Two shoplifters carrying £2,000 worth of alcohol and “high value toys” were chased down and arrested by three plain-clothed Met Safer Neighbourhood Team officers near Highams Park Tesco on Friday 10th April.

According to Waltham Forest Council, the three Met officers were conducting a plain-clothes patrol when they spotted two individuals running out of the Larkshall Road Tesco superstore carrying large bags of goods and being chased by store staff.

The police officers then gave chase and “quickly detained” both suspects, who were carrying a bounty of security tagged whiskey bottles.

It is reported that both suspects were already wanted in connection with a series of retail thefts, commercial burglaries, and knife point robberies across several different areas. The female suspect was wanted for seven offences, while the male was wanted for three, in addition to being recalled to prison.

Both suspects have now been charged and remanded.
