Comment: ‘Don’t forget the Lib Dems’

Waltham Forest Liberal Democrat member Alex Lewis mounts an impassioned case for his party, saying it needs to be back in the conversation

I am writing in response to an article published in the Echo on 6th October: ‘Council leader says Reform could replace Tories in Chingford’.

I have to say it was a fascinating read. Labour and the Conservatives are clearly terrified of hemorrhaging seats next May. But there was something else more astonishing that compelled me to write in.

The story, as told in this article, is that the Tories are worried about Nigel Farage and Labour are worried about Zack Polanski
and Jeremy Corbyn. Yet there was one party curiously omitted from this article: the Liberal Democrats.

Perhaps that is not a surprise. The one thing that unites Reform, Your Party and the Greens is that they are all populist, one-man-
band parties. Their focus is not on what they can do for the people of Waltham Forest, but on making grandiose statements backed up with very little substance.

This is precisely what sets the Liberal Democrats apart. Every week, our volunteers are out in our communities and talking to local residents about the issues that matter to them.

Whether it’s petitioning to have the Whipps Cross rebuild begin immediately rather than a decade from now, or opposing the closure of the Chingford Police Station front desk, or taking action to ensure that missed bin collections are rectified within 24 hours, or opposing the expansion of the Edmonton incinerator to limit the damage to our environment, or taking action against Thames Water to ensure our polluted waterways get cleaned up, our priority is local and our policies are tailor-made for Waltham Forest.
