Three people lost their lives in road traffic accidents, Metropolitan Police data has revealed

Three pedestrians lost their lives to road traffic incidents over the past year, according to figures from the Metropolitan Police.
The stats, obtained by Accident Claims Advice, show that 15 pedestrians were seriously injured in a traffic collision, and 80 suffered a “slight” injury.
A total of 1,407 road traffic collisions were logged by the Met in the past year and according to provisional data released by the Department for Transport (DfT), the UK experienced a 12% rise in reported road traffic accidents in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
Fatal accidents saw a 7% increase, while serious injuries climbed by 15%. Factors such as post-pandemic increases in road usage, adverse weather patterns, and distracted driving are cited as primary reasons.
In March, two young people were hospitalised after being struck by buses in two separate Walthamstow incidents.
And in February 2024, a 70-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle while walking on the zebra crossing outside the Soho Theatre in Hoe Street.
The incident left her needing several surgeries due to a broken back and fractures in her shoulder.
