The Lloyd Park Leeks ultimate frisbee club will send twelve girls to compete in the Youth Ultimate Summit U17 women’s tournament in Lund, Sweden from 21 – 24 July.

The Lloyd Park Leeks were established two years ago by ultimate frisbee champion Oliver Benjamin for boys and girls under 16. It now trains 25 players from Waltham Forest schools and is free to join. Community sessions take place at Lloyd Park and academy training is done at Waltham Forest Feel Good Centre.

Player Jiaming Zheng says: “Having the opportunity to travel abroad with our team and play against the best in Europe is very exciting … we’re really looking forward to seeing how we mark up against the French, German, Belgian and Swedish teams.”

Organised by the Malmö Ultimate Club and Stenungsunds Frisbee Club, the Youth Ultimate Summit will put the Lloyd Park Leeks up against four European teams and one international team. They are the only UK representatives in any of the tournaments being held in Lund.

The U17 girls won bronze in the national indoor championships last November and competed in the national outdoor championships this June in preparation for the tournament.

Oliver Benjamin says: “Setting up the club has been one of the best things I’ve done. To see it evolve from a small Saturday morning group in Lloyd Park to an academy … demonstrates what’s possible when you combine community engagement with elite development.”

As a result of his work with the Lloyd Park Leeks, Oliver Benjamin has been appointed as head coach for the GB U17 women’s Ultimate Frisbee team.
