An historic Chingford pub that was once visited by Queen Victoria in 1882 has reopened following a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Chingford and Woodford Green MP Sir Iain Duncan-Smith visited The Royal Forest last Thursday (12th December) where we was met by Heartwood Collection CEO Richard Ferrier, and Chingford councillors Mitchell Goldie and Roy Berg.

An historic landmark building on the edge of Epping Forest, Heartwood say the pub has been “sympathetically restored and renovated”. Its pub has 90 seats, as well as a zoned dining room for 128 covers and two outdoor terraces with 90 covers.

Upstairs there are 28 boutique bedrooms ranging from a “snug” to a “luxe” suite with prices starting at £99 for a midweek room only stay.

The pub first opened in 1880 as The Forest Hotel, later changing its name in 1882 to The Royal Forest following a visit from Queen Victoria.

Richard Ferrier, CEO, Heartwood Collection, said: “The team and I were delighted to host Sir Iain and to show him the renovation we have undertaken of this historic, much-loved building. The reopening of the pub has not only created 65 jobs but we are also looking forward to supporting the local economy with guests visiting from further afield and staying with us to explore the area.”
