The limited-edition kit is described as a ‘significant evolution’ from Walthamstow FC’s previous offerings and is available to buy now
Walthamstow Football Club have released a “blackout” update to their well-received 2023/24 kit collaboration with the William Morris Gallery.
Working with Pinter, Wood Street Walls, and Admiral, Walthamstow FC once again uses the iconic Yare pattern by John Henry Dearle, adapted into a bold, sublimated all-black gradient aesthetic.
Described by the club as a “masterclass in subtle design”, the new blackout round neck shirt is on sale for £64.99.
The shirt features the William Morris Gallery logo on the front and on the lower left, as well as the No Space for Hate, Admiral and Walthamstow FC logos on the left shoulder, left breast and right breast respectively.
The idea for the initial collaboration was devised by Wood Street Walls, an art collective based on Barrett Road, Walthamstow, who picked out the “Yare” pattern by textile and stained-glass designer John Henry Dearle from William Morris Gallery’s museum archives.
Full access to the gallery’s archive was given, allowing the design team to explore the full collection of textiles and wallpaper to choose the pattern which was digitally re-drawn and colour matched to be sublimated onto the clothing, taking over a hundred hours of research and design.
The kit won a leading global design award earlier this year.
