Man hospitalised following Walthamstow incident

Farnan Avenue was closed to traffic this afternoon, reports Marco Marcelline

Farnan Avenue was taped off by police

A man was taken to hospital this afternoon following an incident on Forest Road, close to the junction with Farnan Avenue in Walthamstow.

Emergency services have not confirmed what the incident was, with the London Ambulance Service (LAS) saying simply that they were called to Forest Road at 1.26pm.

A police tent was put up near Farnan Avenue, which was still shut to traffic from Forest Road as late as 6pm today.

In photos of the scene taken this afternoon at around 3.40pm, a bottle of alcohol can be seen lying on the taped off road. Eyewitness accounts on social media describe a man being taken into an ambulance on a stretcher.

A source who works near the scene said he had seen two men drinking alcohol, with one allegedly drinking near the Tesco on Forest Road from 10am.

Meanwhile the Echo understands that at around 4pm LAS staff entered the nearby Bell pub asking if an “extremely intoxicated” patient could use the bathroom.

A spokesperson from the LAS said: “We were called at 1.46pm on Tuesday 12 November to reports of an incident on Forest Road, Walthamstow.

“We sent ambulance crews to the scene and treated a man before taking him to hospital.”

The Metropolitan Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
