William Morris Gallery will be hosting an Open Night with Pearl Home Records to highlight Waltham Forest’s creative community.
William Morris Gallery and Pearl Home Records, the record label for DIY experimental music, sound art and spoken word, have teamed up to create an event called Spoken Vinyl as part of William Morris Design Line for this year’s London Design Festival.
The William Morris Design Line showcases “the richness of Waltham Forest’s past and present creative community” through various events. It will also encourage attendees to interact with the activities related to design and creativity.

Created by Wood Street Walls in 2020, The William Morris Design Line helped establish a community-led route through Walthamstow as part of the London Design Festival. This year, the route will extend to Lea Bridge to showcase designers and makers across Argall Industrial Area.
The Spoken Vinyl event, which is taking place on Thursday 19th September, will consist of learning about record cutting with a vinyl lathe demo, an open mic, and creating record covers using photo collage.
There will also be spoken word performances by Dominique & Nik (SILKess Demon), who co-run Pearl Home Records, Graham Clifford, and Ruth Wiggins, as well as a special sound art playlist throughout the evening.
The event is from 6pm – 9pm. It is a free event, and no ticket is required.
