Waltham Forest’s free annual family cycling fun day will take place on 22nd September to coincide with World Car Free Day, writes Holly Kintuka
This year’s Tour de Waltham Forest, taking place on Sunday 22nd September, will have three route lengths to choose from.
The annual tour will be a day full of family-friendly activities and guided cycle rides throughout the borough from 10am to 5pm.
The routes; the gold ride (20km), silver ride (9km) and bronze ride (6km) all start and end in Fellowship Square, Walthamstow and are suitable for all skill levels.
The rides taking place in the morning will be self-guided using signage and an online map, whereas the afternoon rides will be supported by guides.
There will be food and drinks available to purchase, cycling-based games activities and more at Fellowship Square as well as Dr Bike mechanics to check that bikes are ready for the tour.
For those who would like to take part but do not have access to a bicycle, there are some available to borrow for free. As part of the community cycle loan scheme, a standard two-wheel cycle with a helmet, lock, and lights can be hired for up to a month for a £30 deposit, which is returned once the loan is over.
Booking for the event is free however, attendees and participants can make donations to the Mayor’s chosen charities.
