The Green Party has suspended its candidate for Chingford and Woodford Green after a blog post in which he confessed to a sexual assault.

Chris Brody, who is among five candidates vying for Iain Ducan Smith’s seat, made the confession in a now deleted personal blog which details his struggles with bi-polar disorder.

In the blog, seen by the Echo, he writes that he sexually assaulted someone while he was in a “secure ward that was lacking proper supervision”, and also writes that he “dragged” a woman “down the street by the arm” due to having delusions that he was carrying “her off to the New World”.

In a further section of the blog post, he writes: “I’ve caused physical harm to people and things because [I] believed that the car I was driving could fly over the traffic in front of me.”

The Echo understands that a Green Party investigation into the blog posts will take place following the 4th July general election.

A Green Party spokesperson told the Echo: “After these matters came to our attention, Chris Brody was suspended from the party. As Chris has now been suspended, he will no longer be able to campaign for The Green Party at this election and will receive no further support, other than pastoral support, from the party.”

His name is still expected to be on the ballot as his suspension happened after the nominations period closed.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Green Party candidate had also shared a since-deleted tweet that claimed the 7th October Hamas attacks on Israel may have been a “false-flag” operation by Israel done to “open the way to the genocide of the Palestinian people of Gaza”.

The other five candidates running in Chingford and Woodford Green are the incumbent Iain Duncan Smith (Conservative), Faiza Shaheen (Independent), Shama Tatler (Labour), Josh Hadley (Liberal Democrats) and Paul Luggeri (Reform Party).
