Waltham Forest Greens have stated they could overturn Labour’s majority at Waltham Forest Town Hall on Thursday, 7th May.

The announcement comes as the party is running a near-full slate of candidates across the borough in the local government elections for the first time.

Across 20 wards, 53 local residents and community activists are standing for election on a platform of “accountable, fair and community-focused local government”.

It is the first time Waltham Forest Green Party has run such an extensive campaign and the Greens say they have been bolstered by over 1,500 members joining the borough party since Zack Polanski’s leadership win in September 2025.

London polling suggests the Green Party is on track for significant wins, putting the party ahead of the Conservatives, Reform and Lib Dems, and in recent weeks overtaking Labour.

Eva Tabbasam, charity director and Cann Hall ward candidate, said: “For me, being Green means working for a better quality of life for everyone in the ward.

“Through my lived experience – as a policy and advocacy professional, a young mother and a renter – I know the challenges our community faces, where the council falls short and how to build power for change. I have supported neighbours with immigration, housing, education and access to healthcare, helping people navigate complex systems and advocate for themselves. Now I want to take that energy into the council chamber.”

Liz Biggs, documentary filmmaker and Lea Bridge ward candidate, said: “My work in the Lea Bridge community over the years has shown me what an afterthought we are to the council.

“We face unprecedented change here, including thousands of new homes built on flood plains and potentially dangerously contaminated land. We need representation from people who care about this community and have the skills and passion to stand up for it. Lea Bridge is my home – and I pledge to represent my community in the council.”

Green candidates are running in all but two wards – Larkswood and Valley – where the party is standing aside in solidarity with Chingford and Woodford Green Community Independents, a party endorsed by academic and executive director of Tax Justice Network Faiza Shaheen. In Leytonstone ward, WFGP is running two candidates alongside independent candidate Rhiannon Eglin, who left Labour late last year.
