As Spring edges closer, the council is offering extra support to those who volunteer to keep our borough clean.

The council’s annual Spring Clean takes place from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March and residents, local organisations, volunteer and community groups, schools and businesses are being invited to organise a litter pick over that weekend.

Equipment like litter pickers, refuse sacks, high vis vests, brooms and bag hoops will be available for free for any groups signing up to hold an event.

Locals are asked to register their event on Friday 6th March.

The Spring Clean Weekend has been running for 14 years, and in that time, thousands of residents, along with schools, faith groups and local businesses, have been involved in events the length of the whole borough.

Councillor Clyde Loakes, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate and air quality said: “I’m delighted to announce that our popular annual Spring Clean Weekend is back! Once again, we’ll be working together with local groups and dedicated residents to give our borough the once over and get it looking its brilliant best.

“It’s a huge demonstration of civic pride and we’ll be coming together as a community to litter pick, give our local spaces a spruce up, paint areas, plant flowers and shrubs, and give our neighbourhoods a bit of attention.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has volunteered in the past, or is thinking of getting involved this year, for their hard work and dedication.”
