Performing arts and film making charity Diverse Voices is pleased to announce the premiere of Brother’s Keeper, a film created by the students of the ‘Diverse Voices of Stage and Screen’ (DVSS) programme, starting at 5pm on Thursday 22nd January 2026 at Forest Cinema.

Diverse Voices was established by filmmakers and creative practitioners Dwayne and Alex in 2010, with a mission to “use arts-based learning to improve the quality of life for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. Our programmes develop life skills and creative skills, through our work in schools tackling sensitive topics and our work outside of schools to increase access to creative employment pathways.”

Diverse Voices says the ongoing defunding of the arts has left young people with “little-to-no creative experiences in their lives, which is damaging to them, their community and the wider culture”.

They point to the make-up of our creative industries, with class-based exclusion more pronounced vis-a-vis other sectors of the economy; only 10% of people working in film and tv come from working class backgrounds, according to Channel 4.

The goal of DVSS is to give disadvantaged local young people, suffering from a lack of access to the arts and a related lack of representation in the creative industries, a space in the community in which to develop their skills, grow creatively and become inspired.

Supporters of Brother’s Keeper include the BFI, Into Film, 3 Mills Studio and Picture Shop Post Production.
