The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery programme is a finalist in the 2026 HSJ Partnership Awards in March next year, reports Marco Marcelline

Whipps Cross Hospital’s Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programme, supported by Johnson & Johnson MedTech, is a finalist at the 2026 HSJ Partnership Awards for allegedly helping patients recover faster after hip fractures.
Barts Health NHS Trust says ERAS reduces complications, shortens hospital stays, and improves recovery for patients with complex needs.
The project is a finalist in the Most Effective Contribution to Clinical Redesign category at the 2026 HSJ Partnership Awards which takes place in London on 19th March.
Meanwhile, Barts Heart Centre‘s ‘ATLAS Virtual Ward’ was also recognised for reportedly giving those waiting for treatment after a heart attack a more comfortable option.
Low-risk patients whose condition is stable can go home and use an app to record their vital signs, with staff monitoring the data remotely and responding if a patient’s condition changes.
Barts says the system reduces waiting times, frees up hospital beds, and helps patients stay active and well at home, rather than spending days in hospital awaiting care.
The team are up for the Best Partnership Delivering Virtual Care prize.
Barts said: “Both projects show how NHS teams working with external expertise can improve care while easing pressure on hospitals.”
