For the third year running WeFlock CIC and Good Shepherd Studios are taking over the shop at No.1 Church Lane, which is next door to Leytonstone Station.

Free food, drinks and support for local residents will be available from 12pm to 2pm every day from Christmas Eve up to and including New Year’s Day.

FoodHub is only possible due to the efforts and help of local organisations and its existence means residents and small businesses are able to access free food and support throughout the festive break.

Over the festive period, the space will double up as a food distribution centre and community social space. Due to the unfunded nature of the scheme, all food is donated and all staff are volunteers.

Local resident Shanice, who previously used the foodbank said: “It’s been such a welcoming space, I’ve been back three times to grab some bits but also to just say hello. I think it’s a beautiful thing.”

Meanwhile Wayne said: “This little bank is just brilliant – it’s helped out so many people. Something like this is what people need around here.”

A spokesperson for FoodHub said: “As other food banks close for a well deserved break we found that the FoodHub became a really social environment for volunteers and visitors alike.”

The foodbank is currently looking for donations of two fridge-freezers, three fridges, two freezers, three microwaves, and a chest freezer. Volunteers are happy to collect these items from your address, but delivery is especially appreciated.

All volunteers slots have been taken but drivers are still wanted.
