Orient Lounge in High Road Leyton will now close at 2am from Thursday to Saturday, with 140 neighbours supporting the change, reports Sebastian Mann, Local Democracy Reporter

A Leyton restaurant has been given permission to extend its hours.
Orient Lounge, in High Road, will now close at 1am on weekdays and 2am on Thursdays through Saturdays.
Permission was formally granted at a Waltham Forest Council licensing meeting on Thursday, 4th September. It was previously licensed by the town hall to close at 11pm on weekdays and 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
A total of 140 neighbours, businesses, and organisations including Leyton Orient FC, signed a petition in favour of the restaurant staying open later.
Fewer than 14 residents objected to the license extension, with one neighbour telling the hearing that she was concerned about a potential increase in noise disturbance.
Before the hearing, the licensing team withdrew their initial representations of concern after Orient Lounge agreed to appoint a traffic marshal covering Balmoral Road from midnight.
This was in order to ensure customers of the premises park in accordance with legislation and do not leave their vehicles in place, the licensing team said.
At the meeting, Orient Lounge’s representative gave evidence that the restaurant was engaging and cooperating with the environmental health team, who had found little or no breakout of noise from the rear area of the premises on multiple visits, some unannounced.
The license extension was also granted with the condition that Orient Lounge operate a noise limiter, which was already in place prior to the hearing.
Editor’s note (06/10/25): A previous version of this article contained wrong information regarding the amount of objections to the license extension. The Echo apologies wholeheartedly to Orient Lounge for any problems this error may have caused.
