Cookbook author and guest-chef of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch Marie Mitchell launches summer residency at Walthamstow Village’s hometipple

An award-winning British-Caribbean and Leyton-based chef is set to launch a residency with hometipple, the wine shop and restaurant in Walthamstow Village’s Orford Road.
Beginning on 8th July, her residency will include jerk pork with coriander and lime sauce, baked whole escovitch snapper, and cornbread with thyme cream cheese and pickled chow chow.
Her menu also spans small plates, like peppered tofu with pickled spring onions and jerk chicken wings with candied scotch bonnet, to more substantial dishes including whole roasted aubergine with chilli and nutmeg sauce.
Sunday diners can experience her special feasting menu featuring curry goat, Colombo chicken curry, and aubergine curry, all served with roti and sweet and tangy pickled salads.

“Marie’s cooking represents everything we love about great food – it’s rooted in tradition but completely up-to-date, and her focus on seasonality and storytelling aligns perfectly with our ethos,” says hometipple founder Mikey Studer.
He added: “As a huge fan of Caribbean cuisine, I couldn’t be more excited to bring Marie’s acclaimed cooking to hometipple. With this warm weather, her vibrant flavours pair perfectly with our selection of rosés, crisp whites, and chilled reds.”
Marie, who describes her dishes as “celebrating heritage while being contemporary”, says: “There’s something magical about bringing Caribbean hospitality and flavours to this beautiful space in the heart of the village. My cooking has always been about creating community and connection, and hometipple’s warm, welcoming atmosphere is the perfect setting for sharing these stories through food.”
Marie Mitchell’s debut cookbook Kin: Caribbean Recipes for the Modern Kitchen recently won the prestigious Fortnum & Mason Debut Cookery Book Award 2025.
