Residents invited on Waltham Forest Town Hall tours

Every third Saturday of the month, visitors can partake in an in-depth history tour of the town hall, writes Holly Kintuka

A tour of Waltham Forest’s Town Hall takes place every 3rd Saturday of the month, which means the next one is on 19th October.

Visitors can join Joanna Moncrieff, who is also a qualified City of Westminster and Clerkenwell and Islington tour guide, for an in-depth history tour of the Waltham Forest Town Hall.

On 19th October, those who partake in the tour will be able to discover the architectural features of the building, sit in the old council chambers and more.

The building, which was designed by Philip Dalton Hepworth in 1929, incorporates Art Deco and Nordic Classicism styles with a strong William Morris influence.

It was then completed in 1941 and refurbished in 2020-2021 and is described as “one of the jewels of Waltham Forest.”

The tour route takes place in the foyer, the council chamber, the basement rooms, plus the grounds, including the newly created Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Garden.

The minimum age for participants is twelve years old, and children between twelve and 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

There will be three tours, one starting at 10am, 12pm and 2pm. Those participating must arrive ten minutes before the tour starts.

Tickets cost £11.55 and are available to purchase via this link
