A “thought-provoking, interactive light installation” opens in Walthamstow today, inspired by the climate crisis.

Tundra, created by sibling duo Increments, is open at 1B Window Gallery in Coppermill Lane from today until 13th January.

Fluorescent light emanating from the window display will react to the temperature change caused by passers-by, reflecting the way human actions constantly alter the environment.

Brothers Ross and Evan Lelliott, who live in Walthamstow, hope to inspire viewers to “reconsider the trace [they] leave behind” and avoid the worst effects of climate change.

They told the Echo: “We are excited by work that reflects on the consequences of human behaviour in a moment of time.

“Tundra’s ‘materiality’ consists of creatively coded waves of chromatic light, allowing its narrative to be absorbed by the viewer.

“The glowing ephemeral nature of the work represents the delicate and fragile state of our environment today. It asks us to consider the impact of our actions, both individually and as a collective.”

The brothers grew up in Trinidad and credit the annual carnival celebrations for introducing them to the power of “multi-sensory art when it fuses with community”.

Their current work thus often considers how “an overreliance on technology obstructs these once instinctive feelings of connection”, while using the very medium they seek to question.
