A Walthamstow charity is one of 21 across London to win part of a £1million fund thanks to nominations from the community.

Yesterday, financial company Benefact Group announced the recipients of its annual Movement for Good fund, after gathering nominations from 11,500 people.

Walthamstow Toy Library, which has offered toys for rent and play groups for nearly half a century, was chosen out of almost 4,000 charities to receive £1,000.

Speaking to the Echo, director Helen Crockford said the money would be used to complete the new “sensory room” at their Hurst Road home, primarily be for children with special needs.

She said: “We are delighted to receive £1000 through the Movement for Good Awards. It’s all thanks to our local community, beneficiaries and friends for nominating us.”

The news comes after a difficult few years for the charity, which was forced out of its old home in 2020 and ransacked by an intruder earlier this year.
