An elderly man died in Chingford yesterday after suffering a “medical episode” while driving.
Some residents feared a murder after seeing a “white tent”, typically used by police to shield dead bodies from view, appear in Dale View Crescent.
However, a Met spokesperson told the Echo that the man’s death was “not being treated as suspicious” and that he is “though to have suffered a medical episode”.
Following the original publication of this article, a spokesperson for the dead’s man family contacted the Echo to offer their thanks to those that tried to save his life.
Identifying him as Alex Wilson, they said: “The family would like to thank all the members of public who rushed to his aid to administer CPR.
“We would also like to thank the emergency services for all of their efforts in trying to save his life. It is very much appreciated.”
Police were called to the scene by the London Ambulance Service shortly before 1.30pm on 27th April.
The Met spokesperson said: “A man, believed to be aged in his 70s, is thought to have suffered a medical episode while driving before rolling into a stationary parked car.
“Members of the public administered CPR to the man prior to the arrival of emergency services but he died at the scene.
“There were no injuries to any other members of the public.”
