Corey Junior (known as CJ) was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on September 2017 whilst with friends at a playground in Moore Walk, Forest Gate

An inquest into the death of 14-year-old Corey Junior Davis will begin at East London Coroner’s Court in Walthamstow on Monday, 20th July.
The inquest is scheduled to last one week and will be heard by Senior Coroner Graeme Irvine.
Corey Junior (known as CJ) was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Newham on September 2017 whilst with friends at a playground in Moore Walk, Forest Gate.
A coroner previously agreed with CJ’s mother Keisha McLeod at a pre-inquest review hearing that protection given to him by Newham Council and the Metropolitan Police before he was killed should be examined, ruling the inquest would be an Article 2 inquest.
The inquest will hear evidence from the Metropolitan Police, the London Borough of Newham and the London and Quadrant Housing Trust (L&Q).
Keisha has concerns that in the months before CJ’s killing, evidence indicates that as a vulnerable child, he was “criminally exploited, exposed to county lines drugs gangs, and placed at serious risk of harm and death”.
Police launched a fresh appeal for information in 2024 with the case remaining unsolved despite previous arrests. A plaque was also unveiled in CJ’s memory ahead of his story being shared on BBC Crimewatch Live.
Keisha is represented by Yvonne Kestler, human rights solicitor at law firm Leigh Day.
