Three Waltham Forest youths remanded into custody over Jewish ambulance attack

Hamza Iqbal, 20, and Rehan Khan, 19, from Leyton, and a 17-year-old boy from Walthamstow are charged with one count of arson

Three young people from Waltham Forest have been remanded into custody after appearing in court charged with the arson of Jewish community ambulances in Golders Green last month.

Hamza Iqbal, 20, and Rehan Khan, 19, from Leyton, and a 17-year-old boy from Walthamstow are charged with one count of arson.

They appeared at a Westminster Magistrates Court hearing on Saturday 4th April where they did not enter any pleas.

Another suspect was arrested by the Metropolitan Police in connection with the alleged arson on Hatzola ambulances on Saturday morning.

The ambulances from Hatzola, a volunteer-led ambulance service operating in north-west London, were set on fire in the early hours of Monday 23rd March, causing gas canisters stored in the vehicles to explode.

As reported by the Press Association, prosecutor Emma Harraway told the court on Saturday: “There is significant evidence that this was a premeditated and targeted attack against the Jewish community.”

Though the case is not being treated as terrorism, the investigation into the incident is being led by counter terrorism policing.

The three defendants are set to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday, 24th April.
