Rufaro Abdul says she has emptied her savings after giving up work to support her husband Kyle through his treatment for fast-spreading non Hodgkins lymphoma

A Walthamstow woman is desperately raising funds for her cancer-stricken husband, who she says is their family’s “anchor”.
Rufaro Abdul, who lives in Walthamstow with her young sons and husband Kyle, is hoping to raise £20,000 towards his private treatment for non Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Kyle has battled cancer for two years, initially dealing with several nose tumours which were removed only for him to be later diagnosed with fast-spreading non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The cancer in his nose since spread to lymph nodes from his neck down to his chest, and is also nearing his brain.
Rufaro has stopped working to support Kyle through his treatment, a move which has left the family to “empty” out their savings.
Describing the financial burden placed on her family as “immense”, Rufaro says she is struggling with bills, groceries, and expenses for her children.
She said: “For two agonising years, Kyle has endured the pain and discomfort inflicted by these growths, robbing him of peace and normalcy. The toll it has taken on him, on our family, is immeasurable – the sleepless nights, the hospital visits, the constant worry etched on our faces.
“Chemotherapy, CT scans, specialist visits and unexpected costs loom ahead, followed by the daunting prospect of radiotherapy treatments we cannot afford alone.”
In August, Kyle was told by a doctor that the tumour was closing his airway completely, and also heading towards his brain. He underwent an operation to remove most of the tumor later that month though doctors could not remove a portion near his brain, for which he was advised to undergo chemotherapy.
He began chemotherapy treatment to shrink the remaining tumours in September, and has so far undergone two rounds out of six.
Rufaro was moved to make a GoFundMe to raise funds for treatment costs, and has so far raised over £3,000. In an emotional appeal to generous donors, she wrote: “The thought of Kyle enduring more pain, of our young sons growing up without their father, is unbearable. Kyle is the anchor of our family, the beacon of light in our darkest hours. Losing him would shatter our world irreparably.”
