David O’Driscoll previews the jam-packed 2024/25 calendar for the ‘coolest’ football club in East London

It seems that football has never been off our screens this year. The Euros has only just finished, and close to home, Walthamstow FC is
currently playing a host of friendlies in preparation for the new season.
The club is as determined as ever to secure a promotion this season after narrowly missing out on the play offs
last year.
To this end, the manager, Vinny Murphy, has been retained; Murphy developed an exciting attacking team that finished the season impressively.
He has kept all the key players from that team, including the long-serving Callum Ibe, versatile New Zealand international Te Wihongi, the key midfielder and new captain, Ade Cole, plus a host of exciting forwards.
Walthamstow also have brought in a new shot-stopper, with the highly rated Lewis Greene joining from Brightlingsea. The league and cup fixtures have been released, and Walthamstow have some fascinating games. They start the new campaign with a home game against Gorleston on 10th August.
They also have two home draws in the FA Cup and a fascinating FA Trophy Cup draw against Royal Bedford FC, a team set up via a considerable investment from Bitcoin investors.
Bedford have ambitious plans to get to the Premier League, no less. And as a result, ‘the Pirates’, as they are nicknamed, have been speeding up the non-league ladder, beating everyone in sight. This challenging game will be at Wadham Lodge on 7th September.
There has been a bit of a shake up in the Isthmian League North, meaning that Walthamstow will face eight new opponents this season. This will include Cambridge City, who are in dispute with their owners about their home ground and have consequently been playing outside of the university city.
There will be a few new local derbies for Walthamstow fans to look forward to; one against Waltham Abbey who will be visiting Wadham Lodge on 26th August, while Walthamstow FC will host Haringey Borough on Boxing Day.
Walthamstow FC get a lot of respect and support due to their community responsibility; for example, as a key worker, you can get season tickets at the incredible discounted price of £20. They also let kids into games for free while the William Morris kit that
caused an internet sensation last year is still available.
There is no reason not to support the coolest team in East London in their promotion push this year.
