Police are investigating after the fatal stabbing of a 33-year-old man at an address in South Birckbeck Road last night
A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in Leytonstone last night.
Police were called to a fight in a property in South Birckbeck Road at around 11.51pm yesterday (18th April).
Attending officers then found a man with stab injuries. They provided emergency first aid alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, but despite their best efforts the man, who is believed to be 33-years-old, died at the scene.
His next of kin are yet to be informed and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
A 34-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at an east London police station.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, a homicide detective from the Metropolitan Police’s specialist crime command, said: “While a man has been arrested and our investigation is making progress, I am still keen to hear from anyone who lived in the local area and may have seen or heard anything that could help us.

Chief superintendent Dan Card, responsible for policing in Waltham Forest and Newham, said: “I understand and share the shock that a violent incident like this will have on the local Leytonstone community. However, I want to reassure residents that an experienced team of specialist officers is already diligently working to established what happened.
“Residents will see an increased police presence in the area over coming days, including local officers. I would ask anyone with concerns to approach and talk to them, or alternatively speak with your local Safer Neighbourhoods team.”
