A former Leytonstone nurse celebrated her 100th birthday on the 16th of September with a bash and a performance from one of her favourite singers.

Margaret Delves began her 100th birthday celebration at the Quaker Meeting House in Leytonstone where she enjoyed drinks and an evening of socialising with close friends. Celebrations continued at her Woodford Green care home where she enjoyed live entertainment from singer Debbie Watt, who performed Margaret’s favourite songs, along with drinks and snacks and a slice of birthday cake.

When asked about her milestone birthday, Margaret commented: “I had a lovely time celebrating my 100th birthday with my friends. My advice for a long and happy life is to have plenty of fresh air, exercise regularly and always have support from friends.”

Susan Riefe, activities co-ordinator at Harts House, commented: “It was wonderful to celebrate Margaret’s birthday with her. She is a very warm, kind and gentle soul who is a joy to spend time with. She is always the first to take part in activities with other residents which is always great. It is incredibly important to us to celebrate our residents and their milestone achievements; it not only boosts the wellbeing of individuals, but for everyone in the home.”

Margaret was born on the 16th of September 1923 in Beckton, East Ham where she grew up with her mother and father. Margaret trained as a district nurse at Beechcroft Nurses home in Leytonstone, and then went on to work at the Royal London Annexe, Brentwood as a qualified midwife. Outside of work she enjoyed the outdoors, exercising and spending time with her group of friends.
