New CRATE food court opens in Walthamstow town centre

CRATE, which already has a site next to Walthamstow St James Station, is similar to Boxpark, a food and retail park made out of refitted shipping containers

CRATE Walthamstow opened its doors to customers on Saturday (22nd July) in the rebuilt shopping centre 17&Central, formerly the Mall, in Walthamstow Town Centre.

The new central Walthamstow site is situated over the entire first floor of 17&Central and offers a private event space which can be booked for workshops, comedy shows, panel discussions, and mini movie marathon nights, alongside a large event space.

The CRATE also features a 9-hole Waltham Forest-inspired indoor mini golf course, while the new entertainment space’s launch over the weekend included an exhibition featuring the photography of ten local Waltham Forest residents. It will run in the main events space for the rest of this week.

The CRATE also includes the High Street Social Bar that includes an in-house craft beer and cocktail bar as well as a speciality coffee shop from Central Coffee Collective. The venue additionally boasts seven independent street food traders, including burger brand Nanny Bill’s and Yorkshire Burrito.

Ahead of its weekend opening, 17&Central General Manager Gavin Cockayne said: “We’re really excited about CRATE Walthamstow coming to 17&Central; it will bring so many benefits to the local community.”

“The space will provide a much-needed destination in the shopping centre where people can socialise, experience the leisure offers and try a variety of cuisines from local independent operators. The opening will also create more jobs in the area and drive visits from local boroughs to support the growth of our brilliant Walthamstow community.”

CRATE Walthamstow is open on Mondays from 8am-10pm, from 8am-11pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8am-11.30pm Thursdays-Saturdays and from 11am-10pm on Sundays.
