A popular coffee was forced to temporarily shut its Walthamstow branch this week after the discovery of a “severe and active” mouse infestation.

Costa Coffee in Station Approach, outside Walthamstow Central Station, was shut down by Waltham Forest Council officers after an inspection on 17th April.

A notice posted on the door also noted officers found signs of a “lack of significant cleaning” or “adequate management control” of the building.

The branch will be unable to reopen until a further inspection has demonstrated that all issues are resolved.

A Costa Coffee Spokesperson said the company takes hygiene inspections “extremely seriously” and was “disappointed and concerned” to learn the branch had failed to meet the required standard.

They added: “The store is owned and operated by a franchise partner, who has temporarily closed it while the team take immediate action to resolve the issue.

“We are confident that, on re-inspection, the store will be rated highly once again. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
