Firefighters were called to Walthamstow this morning after the roof of a house converted into flats abruptly collapsed.

The London Fire Brigade was called to Blackhorse Road, which remains closed for safety reasons at the time of writing, at 9.40am.

Firefighters “led a woman to safety” from the ground floor and four adults and two children have also been evacuated from neighbouring homes.

A 25-metre cordon is in place “as a precaution” and bus routes 158, 230 and W11 are currently on diversion.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson told the Echo: “Most of the roof of a mid-terraced house converted into flats has collapsed into the loft space.

“Blackhorse Road is currently closed whilst firefighters work to make the scene safe.

“Two fire engines from Walthamstow Fire Station and a fire rescue unit from Edmonton Fire Station are at the scene.”
