Ancient artefacts unearthed at a Walthamstow school will go on display for free later this month
Four years ago, archaeologists dug into the playing fields behind Holy Family Catholic School in Shernhall Street, which were soon to be turned into a new sports hall.
The site alongside Vinegar Alley, a medieval footpath running from Shernhall Street to the Church of St Mary, unearthed items almost 3,000 years old, dating back to the late Bronze Age.
Archaeologists also found the remains of a Bronze Age roundhouse, four Roman farm buildings and a medieval field system.
For one day only, their findings will be open to the public at The Mill community centre in Coppermill Lane, Walthamstow.
Visitors can expect to see some of the items excavated from the site, learn more about the techniques used and discover how Walthamstow’s past was shaped by the River Lea.
The free exhibition, organised by MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) and Pre-Construct Archaeology, will open from 10am until 4pm on 25th September.
