A local artist is exhibiting and selling original prints in a tiny Walthamstow gallery this weekend.
Facing Forward, A Carnival of Faces by Astrid Chesney is on show 12pm- 6pm on Saturday, 29th and Sunday, 30th November, at 1B Gallery in Coppermill Lane near St James Street Station.
Facing Forward is inspired by folk art, masks, ancient objects of curiosity and collections from her favourite museums such as The British Museum and the Pitt Rivers Museum.

Chesney produced over 200 paintings of these mask-like faces in the course of a year. The exhibition displays some of the original paintings from this collection alongside the limited edition book (which includes the entire collection), posters and postcards. They are “a celebration of colour, expressiveness and boldness”, she says.
Astrid worked for many years as a freelance illustrator for clients such as the Guardian, the New York Times, Penguin and Random House. Her work has been featured in Creative Review, Dazed & Confused and more recently in Korean Design Monthly and Creative Boom.

Astrid told the Echo: “Each face derives subconsciously through spontaneous play, lead by a certain emotion, mood, colour or pattern. I often felt compelled to create one after another, one face inspiring the next until I had exhausted that particular sequence or theme.”
All of Astrid’s original artwork is for sale. Her artwork price includes frame and window mount at £265 to £465.
