A new multistorey car park at Whipps Cross Hospital will be officially opened tomorrow (30th October).

The new facility will offer 500 parking spots, and is a mix of public and staff parking.

Barts NHS Health Trust, which manages the hospital, said: “This marks an important milestone in the wider redevelopment of Whipps Cross Hospital, which will see the site transformed into a modern, sustainable healthcare campus.”

It is being officially opened by Chingford and Woodford Green MP Sir Iain Duncan Smith at a ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow.

Barts says the car park being finished means work on the new hospital can then begin.

This completion of the multi-storey cark park follows months of growing concerns surrounding the future of Whipps Cross Hospital rebuild.

The new Whipps Cross Hospital will not be built until 2036, the NHS revealed earlier this year.

The long-awaited rebuild, first announced in 2019 by the previous Conservative government, was delayed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves in January.

Construction of the new hospital is now not expected to start until 2032. It was initially supposed to be finished by 2030.

From 1st November 2025, the hospital’s pay-as-you-go parking provider in visitor car parks will change from RingGo to APCOA.

Barts says that people planning on using pay-as-you-go parking will need to download the APCOA Connect app before the new system goes live. You’ll still be able to pay by card or cash, and there will be no immediate changes to parking charges.
