Fellowship Square hosting all day carnival today

The event is part of the council’s ‘Summer Starts Here at Fellowship Square’ programme of activities

A carnival with a traditional dancing troupe, DJs playing afrobeats, and jerk chicken stalls will take place at Fellowship Square today.

The event which starts at 12pm and ends at 8pm, will feature a traditional carnival dancing troupe who will groove to soca music, and Uzambezi Arts, a Southern African multi-disciplinary arts ensemble who specialise in songs, dances, drumming and story-telling will entertain festival goers.

The Lucianites Quadrille, a diaspora collective who will perform a range of social dances in commemoration of the St Lucian culture and heritage.

Fans of R&B, hip-hop, afrobeats, house, bashment and amapiano will be well served by Perfect Gents Ent, a duo of DJ Data and MC Spice. 

Aside from music, guests will be served a huge variety of food and drink stalls, from jerk chicken to tacos to sweet treats.

The event is part of the ‘Summer Starts Here at Fellowship Square’ programme of activities for people of all ages held by Waltham Forest Council. The six week programme includes arts and crafts, exhibitions, sports, performances, summer markets, martial arts, 3D modelling and printing, yoga, and dance taster sessions. 

The programme began on 22nd July and will continue until the end of August. Events so far include Pride at Waltham Forest on 29th July, and communal yoga in front of the Town Hall.
