Yonder, a Walthamstow climbing centre, is holding a free climbing day for adults on 19th August to celebrate Global Climbing Day, an initiative by The North Face.

Yonder, on 6 Hooker’s Road near Blackhorse Road station, is a community-led facility with indoor climbing, co-working, studio space and a cafe.

The free session will include the key safety points of climbing, including centre etiquette, warm ups and cool downs, and some basic techniques to get you off the ground.

This session is suitable for absolute beginners who have never bouldered before and want a quick session to get started. The session will include all equipment required and Yonder says people can stay as long as they want after their induction session is up to climb freely; this means those booking an induction do not need to also book a day entry pass. Workshops need to be booked separately, however.

Workshops include a climbing technique session aimed at climbers of all abilities that promises to get people “out of their comfort zone”, as well as an introduction to competitive climbing.

Experienced athletes Toby Roberts, Molly Thompson-Smith, James Pearson and Caroline Chiavaldini will also speak at Q&A panel sessions where they’ll discuss their journeys, insights and tales of the world of climbing.

Find out more and reserve a spot here. More spots will be released on Monday 14th August
