This privacy policy explains how Waltham Forest Echo uses any personal information we collect about you when you use our website or contact us by phone, email or other correspondence. This policy outlines what information we collect, how it is stored and what it is used for. It is our policy not to use any personal information for any purpose other than which it is intended.

This policy and the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) are designed to protect individual’s information. Business contacts and information are considered to be in the public domain and therefore not covered. GDPR is in force from 25th May 2018.

Who we are

We are an independent community newspaper for the London borough of Waltham Forest. Waltham Forest Echo is published by Social Spider CIC on behalf of WFWellComm CIC, a social enterprise formed by charities and social enterprises based in Waltham Forest.

Our website is walthamforestecho.co.uk and our postal address is The Mill, 7-11 Coppermill Lane, Walthamstow E17 7HA.

Why we collect personal data

If you sign up to our newsletter we will collect basic identification information such as your name and contact details. This will be used for:

  1. Electronic delivery of emails, newsletters and any other internally generated information relating to the content of the newspaper, and to keep you informed of upcoming editorial meetings and events.

  2. To meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

We would like to send you information about the newspaper and associated events that may be of interest to you. We will do so if you have signed up to our mailing list. You have the right at any time to stop us from contacting you. If you no longer wish to be contacted for marketing purposes, please email us: [email protected].

How we store and protect your data

We will retain all given information on the following basis:

  1. Our mailing database is stored via Mailchimp. You may unsubscribe and/or have your details deleted at any time.

  2. Membership of Waltham Forest Echo is dealt with via GoCardless, which stores your billing information. Please be aware that all transactions are subject to GoCardless’ Privacy Policy.

  3. Membership data is stored on a password-protected online document.

We will not sell or share any personally identifiable information collected by us to any third party.
