Man left unconscious after Wood Street assault

A 37-year-old man was rushed to hospital last night following an assault in Wood Street while another man, 46, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm

Paramedics rushed a man, 37, to hospital last night (24th March) following an assault in Wood Street, Walthamstow.

Police were called to the scene at 10.29pm, and found the man unconscious on their arrival. Officers provided first aid before the arrival of the London Ambulance Service.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said he was then taken to hospital where his injuries were confirmed to be “non-life-threatening”.

A 46-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and he remains in Met custody while enquiries into the incident continue.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told the Echo: “We were called at 10.47pm on Tuesday 24th March to reports of an assault on Wood Street, Walthamstow.

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car and a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a patient and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
