The William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow has unveiled a UK first: a custom-designed museum vending machine, offering an eye-catching selection of gifts, keepsakes, and ornately crafted items inspired by the legendary designer William Morris.
Wrapped in Morris’s iconic seaweed design, the vibrant vending machine was first launched at the gallery as part of its 75th anniversary, where it quickly became a local sensation. Shoppers can purchase a range of products from the vending machine including greeting cards, notebooks, sketchbooks, glasses cases, leather purses, umbrellas, hand creams, plus tote bags.
The vending machine has just landed in Waltham Forest Town Hall and will be moving to other locations within the borough next year.
Samantha Enstone, head of commercial at William Morris Gallery, said: “William Morris believed in bringing art into everyday life – and what better way to have fun than with a vending machine packed with beautiful, useful things? We’re thrilled by the public’s reaction so far. It’s a fun, creative, and accessible way for people to engage with Morris’s legacy and support the gallery at the same time.
“As a free museum and historic site, the vending machine provides a playful but meaningful new revenue stream, supporting the gallery’s award-winning exhibitions, educational programmes and community outreach.”
